portrait PHOTOGRAPHY
Portrait Photography is one of most common forms of photography. Portrait photography includes facial expressions and affection. Portrait photography produces pictures that capture the personality of a subject by using effective lighting, backdrops and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic. Portrait photography is mostly used by documentary photographers who captures scenes from places around the world. Their photographs are filled with emotions and an untold story.
Lee Jeffries
Lee Jeffries lives in Manchester in the United Kingdom. Close to the professional football circle, this artist started to photograph sporting events. A chance meeting with a young homeless girl in the streets of London changes his artistic approach forever. Lee Jeffries recalls that, initially, he had stolen a photo from this young homeless girl huddled in a sleeping bag. The photographer knew that the young girl had noticed him but his first reaction was to leave. He says that something made him stay and go and discuss with the homeless girl. His perception about the homeless completely changes. They become the subject of his art. The models in his photographs are homeless people that he has met in Europe and in the United State,he would ask for homeless people's permission to take picture and would discuss about whats going on. He believes that their eyes have hopes which is priceless and deserves to be captured. His images are mostly focused on the eyes which makes it really strong. Lee uses contrast and texture in his work, the subjects face is always the focus point.
I really like this picture, the black and white contrast really points out the flaws in the old man, the wrinkles on his cheeks really stand out with his white beard. As we know Lee takes pictures of homeless people, so seeing this man really effects the viewer's emotion. Even though, this image doesn't contain anything amazing but somehow this old man's facial expression just attracts the viewer. The focal point of this image really stand out because of the plain black background.
Steve McCurry
Steve Mccurry also known as the 'afghan girl', his one of the most famous portrait he took in Peshawar Pakistan refugee camp of an Afghan girl. He wanted to do filmography but ended up doing photography which he was really successful in. He travels to India often to capture breathtaking pictures. He mostly take pictures of something cultural and different. Steve always uses colors this reflects the context and location of the shoots. He uses colors to balance his composition.

I personally love this picture, the combinations of the background and the eye color of this girl really stands out also the complimentary colors of the green and red really makes it stand out too. The low depth of field made the background out of focused which really outlines the edges of the girl's scarf. The photographer made sure the focal point of this image was her eyes.

I really like this picture which Lisa Kristine took, it shows the love of siblings and team's handwork. People at the back working hard for their family, looks as if they're trying to clean the dirty water so its drinkable for survival. It also includes emotions a little child crying and his brother is holding him looking up probably thinking what he should do?. Also people at the back are females, they're doing what men should be doing. They're working hard for themselves and this bit really catches the audience eye, you see a group of women working.
jasper james
It's nicely balanced how its been split in 2 faces, It has a dreamy feel to it and a romantic vibe. The photographer may have used an ariel view point, maybe because he was trying to express how it feels to be in love as it feels as if you're floating. The muted and subtle colors really attracts the viewer, the brown building really stands out with the muted colors.
JASPER JAMES STYLE SHOOT:
plan
1. I want to create an illusion of a face made up of branches. Firstly, I will take a picture of a person face using a plain white background with a medium depth of field, the focus point will be on the center of the face. I will then take photographs of trees then using Photoshop manipulate the images. I will change my picture to black and white and add the face to the branches to create a spooky effect. This shoot will be based on Jasper James photography style.

final piece
To get to my final picture I used Photoshop to aim for a picture like Jasper James. I first took pictures of branches and a picture of a face and afterwards edited the branches and the face black and white and layered the face on top of the branches and changed the opacity of the face layer to 73% so it fades in the branches. I then added an effect by using the paint brush tool and added white paint around the face so the texture of branches which can be seen in the face can stand out (above) but after I finished the edit I realized that it didn't really look that outstanding and didn't come out as I wanted it to so I erased the white paint.
shoot :1
We decided to take pictures of different emotions and expressions. Some were pretty hard to act.
I learnt something new today on Photoshop it was how to add an animal print on to a portrait and make it look outstanding. I first opened 2 pages, one with Khunsha's face and other of an animal print, then I used the cloning tool and cloned the animal skin on to the face I used small opacity so it looks real. Finally, I used an eraser and erased the print on the eyes, eyebrows and lips so these features stand out better.
worst
I chose this picture as my first shot because of the angle, I think the angle of the face gives a really interesting composition it attracts the other person. Also the exposure is low to really get the shape of the face out.
TIMER PHTOSHOOT:
I used self timer to take these pictures. Firstly, I turned on my camera and clicked on the left button infront of the camera with piles of rectangle and a timer sign. I then clicked on it and I went to the third option which kind of looks like a torch with a clock, its the self-timer;10sec/remote control. It's really easy to use once you get a grip of it, the difficulties are that sometimes pictures doesn't come out like you wanted to, blurry, too high, too low and many others.
shoot 2
worst
I really like this picture because it meets all the requirements what makes a good portrait. The exposure suits the environment and the focus point is low because I wanted the camera to focus on Britney's face so the back is blurred out which really makes the face stand out.
eDITING :
done;
As I said before I wanted to make sure that her textures stand out, so I decided to photoshop it and decrease the amount of shadow and highlight, this made the picture darker and her features looked a bit realistic.
shoot 3
homeless project
I went town to take pictures like Lee Jeffries. I went upto homeless people and sat next to them to talk to them so they feel comfortable. After, I told them that I need to take pictures of homeless people for my gcses photography and they agreed to it, they were actually really excited about the fact that I asked them for a picture and also in return I gave them a meal to eat.
final
After using the Photoshop I came up with this image. I first took a picture of a homeless man sitting down in town then I used the photoshop and turned it into black and white and started to add textures. I believe this image is so strong because it tells everything about this, his eyes shows a reflection of something, they shine. I used the burn tool to add dome texture to his skin (under his eyes, nose, knuckles and cheeks) also on his clothes and I then used the dodge tool to show as if there's a reflection in his eyes. This made the picture stand out.
I also really like this picture, this picture doesn't really contain many photography skills it's just a quick snap that is then turned into black and white to give it that extra texture. The old man is wearing a blanket with a check print, this print stood out more when this picture was converted in black and white.

evaluation
For this project I looked at many photographers. Jee Jeffries, Steve Mccurry, Lisa Kristine and Jasper James. I loved their work as they focused on facial features so much. Steve Mccurry's best picture of that green eye girl, I loved how he focused on her green mesmerizing eyes . When I first discovered this project I instantly had ideas for my shoot, I loved this project as it gave me chance to work with Photoshop. Photoshop played a big role in this project as it helped me create awesome picture and I didn't realised how much it improved my work. This project influenced me to take pictures of people outside school, which was a very good experience. If I had another chance to do this project I would take more pictures to secure my grade .
