slinkachu
Slinkachu is as a London-based artist who creates very small street-based installations and then photographs them from far away and up-close. Slinkachu is one of my favorite photographers because of his creativity and his mind blowing ideas like when he makes an island with a tennis ball (below) and a palm tree in a puddle(below). He lives in London, he started 'The Little People' project in 2006, it involves remodelling and painting the characters, which he place on the streets of London and leave it. It is both a street art installation project and a photography project. Which he then photographs and then leaves on the streets as a trade mark. He creates a story with his pictures after he has taken a photograph he leaves his models on the streets and sees how people interact with it.

examples of slinkachu's work
awesome!!!
I like this picture from Slinkachu, because I find it really interesting as it has a hidden story behind it. Their are little people wearing hats and working. It looks like as if they're harvesting crops, which could be referencing to hardships in some countries, and shows what it's like for people everyday. He has used a shallow depth of field to focus on the small people. Also, it looks like he has used the rule of thirds. A compositional rule that makes the picture effective. Also, the juxtaposition of people harvesting crops in a urban area adds humor. The blue boxes really stands out with the red and its on the left and right side adds compositional balance to the image.
yuck!!
This picture isn't really my favourite image taken by Slinkachu because of the bad exposure that has been used. However, this could of been done on purpose to show that drugs are related to darkness, and referring to the way drugs are passed around in alley ways. However, I like one thing about this image is that the texture of the gravels and stones on the ground which creates an interesting scene. The focus point is on the right place, the out of focused trees really bring life to this image. However, Slinkachu could have improved this shoot.
Isaac Cordal
This is something people regularly see in real life. This photo is very effective from the angle the photo is taken from. The focus is the sad faces of the poor man and dog. The fact that it's snowing and it's cold, makes me have sympathy for the man being on the streets. You can tell this photo was shot on the back streets. He has used a slightly shallow depth of field to keep your attention on the figures. The texture of the wall the figure is leaning against really stands out and it really brings life to the photograph.

yuck!!
I really don't like this picture from Isaac Cordal photography, because I think it's just a random man in the ground it's not really eye catching as it looks pointless. Also, it looks really boring it doesn't really have a story behind it, which I think every picture should. I think this is the only picture taken by Isaac Cordal which is really confusing.

awesome!!!
I really like this picture which Isaac Cordal took, it's really heart touching because I think this picture is trying to show an old man visiting his wife's grave, this picture inspires me because Isaac Cordal probably seen a normal grass coming out of the ground and he decided to make it look like as if its a graveyard, which shows that Isaac Cordal is really mindful and has lots of different creative ideas for his shoots. Isaac used a large focus point as there are no out of focused patches in this image. He used rule of 1/3 to make the viewer look straight at what he's trying to show. Also, a grave in a middle of nowhere bring a humor to the image.
roy tyson
Roy Tyson. He’s the master of miniature and the creator of a tiny world known as 'Roy’s Peoples'. He creates tiny universes . They are everyday people, doing everyday things in extraordinary settings. His works often feature familiar landscapes. His work is all about creating images and installations using miniature figures, taxidermy and every day items.

yuck!!
I think this is the worst picture taken by Roy Tyson because personally, I think this image is really offensive to Catholic people because there's a key ring in this picture and with it there's a Bible, and Roy Tyson places the Bible on the floor which is disrespecting the Bible. However, I like the point that the focus is only on the object and rest is out of focused this really attracts the viewer, again he has used the rule of 1/3.
|
awesome!!
I really like this picture by Roy Tyson, because I think it's really eye-catching because there's different variety of colors has been used in this picture also I think there's a story behind it. Also I like the fact that the focus point is on the objects which really brings out the focal point and the rest of the environment is out of focused. Roy Tyson has used an iphone for his shot and on the screen there's 'Godzilla' written on which then the shot gives away that this picture is trying to show a family having their own 'cinema picnic'. The blue colored chairs really stands out with the red and white flooring as it's a bit darker.
My slinkachu photography plan
1. For my first shoot I want to show a picture of a couple enjoying their time together. However, they don't know that they are being stalked by a man with a digger. I think this will bring a suspense to the shoot. To accomplish this shoot I'm going to make sure my focus point is small so the focus of the camera is on the stalker and the couple is out of focus, yet it will look good and interesting. Also, I will have to print out an image of a pond and I will collect some sand and grass from outside to make it more realistic. I'm trying to do a shoot just like Slinkachu did with the family Godzilla cinema one, as they were spending quality time together. So therefore I'm trying to show the same emotion but with a bit of suspense.
2. I'm going to be doing a similar shoot to my first shoot as I'm checking if this shoot comes out better than the previous one. It's still about a couple spending time together. I will use nature again I'm going to collect some orange crusty leaves to give a warm effect to the shoot. I will be trying different f-stops to try and get the correct depth of field.
3. I will be showing an accident of a bus using mini props. I will be re-creating Slinkachu's image however he used a car but I'm going to be using a bus. My location will be in the sand to give a contrast of dull and bright color as the bus is bright red and sand is a boring brown colored. My focus point will be big as I want everything in my shot.
4. I will be using the previous bus again, for this shoot I'm going to be showing a bus being hijacked by a man pointing a gun at the bus like Slinkachu did for his bee shoot where a man is pointing a gun at a bee. I will use the rule of 1/3 to make it more interesting and professional. I don't really want a shoot with warm light so therefore I will change the white balance to 2500K.
5. For this shoot my aim will be to show bright colors clashing together and attracting the viewer. To make this happen I have few vehicle props they all have bright colors on them as Slinkachu also uses very bright colors in his work. Also I'll set the camera on medium exposure so the camera doesn't change the color of the props and really capture the colors strongly.
6. I want to involve animals in this shoot to make it a bit different from my previous shoot. My aim is to show a Croc on a boat in a dirty river just like Slinkachu did even though his theme was a bit different however he used water just like I'm going to be using. There isn't really a specific story behind this shoot but I think it will be a pretty different shoot. I will work on my depth of field and exposure, to make this image clear. I'm aiming to achieve the kind of work Slinkachu produces as his images are pretty unusual so I think having a Croc on a boat will meet Slinkachu's standards.
7. For my last shoot I want to give a meaning to my shoot, I will aim to spread an awareness about what ha been going on in the wild life. I want to show Animal trafficking, as the hunters are killing wild animals and selling their skin illegally. For this shoot I will paint some red pain on the Croc and some on the floor to make it look as if he's shot by a hunter. I will have a small focus point as I just need focus on the head of the Croc. I will be linking this shoot with the previous analysed image that was taken by Slinkachu of a tablet symbolizing illegal things. However, I will be showing illegally animal hunting.

yuck!!!
second shot: practice
yuck!!
I really dont like this picture of my second attempt to a picture just like Slinkachu, I think this is my worst picture I took, because you cant really see the object (a man) and the exposure is really low. The environment of this shoot really boring. The hook where the object is standing is really high which then I tried to zoom in but unfortunately it was still to high and it wouldn't let me take a close up.
|
awesome!!!
I think this is my best take because you can see the figure clearly and the depth of field is normal, however I think it would've looked even better if the was of focus using a small depth of field. Also, it could have been better if the exposure was a bit higher because the location of this shot was dark, also you can see the blue tac.
edit
final
To improve this shoot, I used Photoshop to hide the blue tac which was a pretty big issue in my shoot, I did this by using the cloning edit. Other than this, I increased the brightness of this shoot so it's a bit more clear.
my third shot
yuck!!
awesome!!
I really like this shot because I think it's really unique also the focus point is on the right place I made sure the props were out of focus to make it realistic and I used a bit of wet sand to give in a touch of a pond. I'm trying to show a couple looking at a pond I think it's a picture showing love. Also, to make this picture even better I have to hide the blue tac because you can see it in the shot.
I really like this picture from my Slinkachu shoot, because it seems as if it has a story behind it, it looks as if there's a person stalking a couple even though you can't really see the couples properly it still looks really good because all the focus is on that man behind the bushes and the environment (table ) camouflages the picture and the sand, which makes it looks real.
MY fourth SHOT;
yuck!!
awesome! |
This is my worst Slinkachu shot because the focus point was not placed on the object, also you can see the blue tac. The objects are not stabilized properly. I tried to make an forest environment with those crusty leaves but unfortunately because of the table color I was enable to finish my actual plan.
|
This is my best slinkachu shot because, the focus point is on the object, you can see the object clearly. The aperture is medium so it's easier to see the object. I'm trying to show a couple standing together in a forest environment, which clearly in my best shot you can see the leaves are out of focus so the camera focuses on the objects. However, the down side to it, is that you can see the blue tac.
my fifth shot:
YUCK!!
awesome!!
I really like this picture because of the contrast and colors it contains, the red bus stands out bright with the dull brown sand. The focus point is really good as you can see everything clearly, as you can tell I'm trying to show an accident of a bus in a sandy location.
my sixth shot:
YUCK!!
awesome!!
I think this is my best picture I took from my Slinkachu shots because you can clearly see what I'm trying to show the focus point is on the object, I have used rule of 1/3's. It looks real and attracting to make this shoot better I could have hid the feet so it looks even better otherwise everything looks really eye-catching. In this shot I'm trying to show a bus and a man (soldier) pointing the gun at the bus to stop it.
my seventh shot:
yuck!!
awesome!!
I really like this picture from my Slinkachu shoot because you can clearly see the object also the focus is on the object and not on other places. The exposure is low so you the colors can be seen, because of the exposure this picture looks really attractive, it attracts the viewers because of the amount of dark colors has been used.
my eighth shot
yuck!!
AWESOME!
I really like this picture because the focus is on the object, you can see the object clearly also the environment is really eye catching. In this picture I'm trying to show a crocodile trying to climb up the boat. This scene looks really eye-catching because of the leaves in the water. This shot took place in a normal puddle but because of the leaves it looks as if it's a lake.
my ninth shot:
yuck!
aWESOME!!
I really like this picture because you can see the object clearly and the focus point is on the right place, this image really looks eye-catching because of the red paint, in this picture I'm trying to show a crocodile covered in blood (shot by someone), also in this shoot I'm trying to show why hunting animals is illegal. Wildlife crime is a big business. Ran by dangerous international networks, wildlife and animal parts are trafficked much like illegal drugs and arms.
my final pieces
adjustment on final pieces
I thought I was capable of improving my final pieces, so I decided to play around on Photoshop to change contrast and exposure and saturation.
evaluation
During this project I looked at the work of Slinkachu, Isaac Cordal and Roy Tyson. Their work really inspired me to re-create their work, their ideas are so unique and creative. When I researched their work I thought it was going to be very hard and would struggle to think of shoot ideas, however as I looked deeply into their work I realised that it wasn't that hard. As this was my first ever photography project, I struggled with using the camera and other editing sites. However, as I started to take pictures I started to learn new camera skills which you can see from the progress of my work. when I was going through it I knew I could do something better so I decided to use photoshop and do a final touch-up to my final pieces. I think I did pretty well on this project as you can see the difference between my first shoot and my last shoot. the wide range of technical terms used shows the effort put in.
