what is surrealism?
Surrealism was developed by the 20th-century literary and artistic movement. The surrealist movement of visual art and literature, flourished in Europe between World Wars I and II. Surrealism grew principally out of the earlier Dada movement, which before World War I produced works of anti-art that deliberately defied reason; but Surrealism emphasis was not on negation but on positive expression.
salvador dali
Salvador Dalí was born on May 11, 1904, in Figueres, Spain. From an early age, Dalí was encouraged to practice his art and would eventually go on to study at an academy in Madrid. In the 1920s, he went to Paris and began interacting with artists such as Picasso, which led to Dalí's first Surrealist phase. He is perhaps best known for his 1931 painting The Persistence of Memory, showing melting clocks in a landscape setting.

I find this art work really interesting. I can see a cloud in the shape of lips and a couple is spending time together, this gives an idea of maybe they're on holidays enjoying the sunset also this painting gives a very romantic feel because of the lips representing a kiss and the couple kissing. Salvador Dali used colors which give a warm feeling like orange and red. Salvador Dali also used dark texture to make the main bits stand out like the clouds shape and the couple.
I think this piece of artwork has a story line to it. It has a man with opened drawers on his body also his hands position seems as if hes stopping someone and on the far left hand side you can see a women in a dress, this might suggest that maybe the man gave everything of his to the lady and now when shes leaving him hes trying his best to stop her but he has nothing else to give. Salvador Dali used dark colors to give the feel of angry and depressing situation.
jerry uelsmann
Jerry Uelsmann was born in Detroit, Michigan. while attending public schools, at the age of fourteen, there sparked an interest in photography. He believed that through photography he could exist outside of himself, to live in a world captured through the lens. Jerry Uelsmann is a creative genius, but it takes technical skill to translate what his mind’s eye sees. His composite images are all the more impressive with the realization that the surreal visions were created in an analog world.

I find this image pretty interesting. It seems like as if someone is tired of their body someone who is pretty much fed up of the way they look and they want to just leave their body. I can say this because this picture contains a skeleton and a rough image of someones complete body walking away with their hand on their face.
This image is pretty unusual all I can think of is that maybe they're showing affection for one and other but the unusual bit is that Jerry used papers to cover their faces which can also mean that behind the paper their facial expression is completely different it could be that the boy is forcing himself on her.
tommy ingberg
I find this picture really amusing, I think Tommy is trying to show something which people should understand about peoples minds, the stairs on these men's head might mean that everyone has their own routes and own goals so let them achieve it without stopping them. Tommy uses black and white effect on his photographers to give the viewers a serious feeling. The center of this photograph really draws the attention, as the entire picture is dark but the center is white and bright.
I'm assuming this picture is pretty similar to the previous one, the balloons might represent someones goals and the rope which is tied around the rock might be representing people. a person is chasing its dreams where as people's opinions might be holding him back and not letting him chase his dreams/goals. The black and white filter gives a really depressing feel because its upsetting that sometimes peoples opinions can break your dreams.

I really like this picture, even though its pretty simple it's still really eye catching. Lara is trying to pass out a message to her viewers that ' girls are like pearls which means they're precious, treat them like one'. The facial expression says a lot its a straight face with eyes wide open which could represent fear. Lara used simple color (white) to pass out a positive vibe also the color white symbolizes purity. All the wall lines are going inwards towards the shell, drawing the viewers attention to the girl.
plan
1. For my first shoot I will manipulate a picture in a hand to symbolize protection. First of all I'm going to be taking a normal picture of someones hand with small depth of field so it only focuses on the hand. Then I will be using one of my family picture and via Photoshop I will edit the picture on the hand.
2. I'm going to take a picture of someones eye with smalll focus point because I just need the eye. With photoshop I'm going to be using one of my anglesey picture and photoshop it in the eye. I will then use the dodge tool to make a tear and turn the picture of the eye to black and white however the picture in the eye the anglesey one will stay coloured.

shoot 1
final
I tried to link my shoot with my chosen photographer Jerry Eulsmann, as he creates images like this one. I wanted to show protection through this image as hands symbolize protection and safety. When you're a child your parents would hold your hand to protect you, so I decided to use this idea in my shoot. I edited images of my family in a pair of hands to show I will always love them and protect them, the grey background is to link my shoot with Jerry Eulsmann. I first added a prayer from my religion and edited it on the hands, however because I placed it under the feet, my family pointed out that it was disrespectful towards my religion so therefore I deleted it and kept it simple.
magical
photoshop
final
This is my final result, I wanted this shoot to be different from last shoot so therefore I included something magical. Firstly, I took a picture of my model looking at an empty box which I was going to photoshop to make it magical, I made sure depth of field was small so the focus would be on the model and the box also I made sure my exposure was medium so the picture would come out normal and not too dark or bright . After this I searched up a picture of Tinkle Bell and with magnetic lasso tool I cut the tinkle bell out and then to make sparkles I did few editing. I then pasted the tinkle bell on my main picture. To make it more interesting I found pictures of butterfly and I cut them out and pasted them on my sparkles.
shoot 2
final
This is my final piece, I personally really like this I think it expresses many emotions. Firstly, I took a picture of an eye and then with photoshop I added a picture from my previous trip, Icut the picture out in the shape of the eye so it fits perfectly. After I used the burn tool to go around the eye so it stand out more. I then decided to turn the picture black and white so it looks more serious and full of emotions however I left the trip picture coloured so its more visible. after this I used the dodge tool and the burn tool to make a tear drop. when I look at this I get a feeling of heart break, I tried showing pain of seeing your loved one with someone else through an eye and I think it's really powerfull.

black and white
final
I edited my final piece from my previous shoot because I wanted to link my work to my chosen artist 'Salvador Dali' so therefore I edited my picture using a filter called 'poster edge'.
coloured painting
To make it more like a painting, I had to redo the photoshop as I lost my photoshop document where my actual image was. I repeated the process however I left this image colored because i wanted a warmth in my picture to make it look like a painting by Salvador Dali.

evaluation
I enjoyed this topic the most, as I love playing around with Photoshop and I used Photoshop for all of my shoots. I was really inspired by my chosen photographers and painters. I loved re-creating their work. However, If I had another chance to do this topic I would surely do some more shoots in style of Lara Zankoul as I didn't really take any pictures in her style, so to secure a high grade in this unit and come up with different ideas instead of re-creating the photographers work.
